Professional, Compassionate Support with Carla Boulton

Looking for a trusted counsellor in Shrewsbury who offers a calm, supportive space to talk? You don’t have to face life’s challenges alone. I’m Carla Boulton, a qualified, professional counsellor offering confidential, compassionate counselling to adults in Shrewsbury and the surrounding areas.

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, experiencing low mood, or simply in need of someone to talk to outside of family and friends, counselling may support you to make sense of what’s happening and find a way forward that feels right for you.

Professional Background & Experience

I’m Carla Boulton, a professional counsellor, coach, and clinical supervisor, with nearly a decade of experience supporting individuals through a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties.

I am a Professional Accredited Member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and work in line with their ethical framework. I engage in regular supervision and ongoing professional development, hold an enhanced DBS certificate, and maintain full professional insurance.

My core training is in Person-Centred Therapeutic Counselling, and I work integratively to ensure counselling is tailored to you as an individual. Alongside my private practice, I also work as a school counsellor, an NHS executive coach, and a clinical supervisor supporting other counsellors and coaches.

I have additional training in anxiety, trauma-informed work, neurodivergence, suicide prevention, dementia support, and working with children and young people (14+). I always work within my professional competence and with care for your wellbeing.

A Safe Space to Be Heard

Life can feel very heavy at times. You might be struggling with anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, grief, or past experiences that continue to affect you today. You may not have the words yet – and that’s okay.

As a counsellor based in Shrewsbury, I offer a private, safe, non-judgemental space where you can speak openly and honestly at your own pace. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to walk alongside you, supporting you as you explore your thoughts and feelings with care, respect, and curiosity.

My Approach as a Counsellor in Shrewsbury

My counselling approach is warm, relational, and collaborative. I work integratively, drawing from different therapeutic approaches depending on your needs, while always respecting your pace, boundaries, and lived experience.

I believe meaningful change happens within a trusting therapeutic relationship. Counselling isn’t about fixing you – because you’re not broken. It’s about understanding yourself more deeply and creating change that feels authentic and sustainable.

How Counselling Sessions Work

Counselling sessions take place in a confidential, supportive setting designed to help you feel comfortable and at ease. Sessions provide regular space to talk through what’s been on your mind, reflect on your experiences, and explore your feelings safely.

If you’re new to counselling, we can talk through what to expect and answer any questions you may have. There’s no pressure to share anything before you’re ready – we move at a pace that feels right for you.

Local Counselling in Shrewsbury

What happens in the first counselling session?

The first session is an opportunity to talk about what’s brought you to counselling, ask questions, and get a sense of how it feels to work together. There’s no pressure to share anything you’re not ready to.

How many counselling sessions will I need?

There’s no set number. Some people find short-term counselling helpful, while others choose to work longer-term. We can review this together as we go.

Do you offer online counselling?

If you’d prefer online counselling, this can be discussed when you get in touch. We can explore what feels most comfortable and appropriate for you.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

It’s normal to feel unsure. Many people come to counselling simply because they want support, understanding, or space to talk. You don’t need to be in crisis to reach out.
