Ditherington Flax Mill

I spent a year as one of the artists in residence at Ditherington Flax Mill in Shrewsbury, Shropshire UK, this is the oldest iron-framed building in Europe, derelict and at the planning stages of redevelopment. An exciting point to be involved with. The history aspect is wonderful and the opportunity to work with English Heritage is fantastic.

The paintings shown below are acrylic and household paint on cotton canvas,  4′ tall x 2’6″ft wide.

NHS Hearing Advice poster

Shrewsbury hospital Audiology department needed two revised instructions on their poster and asked me if I was able to do this. I was really happy to oblige and two men with more hair and a lady in a flowery T-shirt were added in to the bottom row.

Creative Boom

I was asked by Creative Boom Shrewsbury to create the banner for the launch of this site which was a hub of the national Creative Boom website. A great opportunity for artists to meet other artists and creatives, to collaborate, contribute and get their work seen.

Creative Boom Shrewsbury was a regional online magazine about the creative industries in Shropshire and covers everything from fashion, film and photography to art, design, animation and marketing.

The monsters were so loved that they were then used as characters on the Creative Boom, Shrewsbury business cards – hooray for creative monsters!

For the second banner Shropshire creators were asked to contribute their own creative monsters to be put together in a banner by me. Creative Boom no longer has a local hub, instead Shropshire is now part of the West Midlands Hub.

Shropshire Jelly

An opportunity to draw people as they work – and why not? So I went along to pencil-spy at Shropshire Jelly, a casual monthly co-working event, where homeworkers, freelancers, small business owners and office based people who want a change of environment once in a while can get together with their laptops once a month to have a change from their usual workplace, meet some new people and work together in a social environment. Shropshire jelly. If you would like me to come and draw at your event please drop me and email or give me a call.

Unreachable

In the Distance Yet Unreachable, Acrylic and gesso on Cotton Canvas, 300mm x 220mm.

The unreachable series is based upon the text below

Unreachable, the distance you are
Seems so far away but so near
Time is sometimes not the barrier
Neither distance
Deeds done, advantage taken
Wounds slash deep

Unreachable the distance you are
So near, your light obscured
Your face blank, smiles unreal
Eyes show nothing
When will you mean words
When will it heal?

Unreachable the distance you are
Closer than a tender touch
Resistant and closed hard fast
Pride projects a barrier
Emotions never flow
How will we repair?
